Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669) was one of the world’s greatest and most well-known painters, as well an equally prolific printmaker. To honor and celebrate the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt’s death, Paperblanks has printed a special edition notebook with Rembrandt’s 1641 etching, The Windmill.

Rembrandt's Windmill etching was inspired by the Dutch landscapes; according to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, the windmill depicted was likely one that stood along the city walls on the west side of Amsterdam. Nicknamed the “Little Stink Mill” (because the owners were leather-makers who used cod liver oil to soften their leather), the windmill acted as a figurative boundary that demarcated the city from the countryside.

Copies of Rembrandt’s Windmill etching are housed at Rijksmuseum, the Dutch national museum in Amsterdam, as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Originally released as an embellished manuscript, Paperblanks has now released a special edition notebook so you can own your own copy of Rembrandt’s Windmill etching while jotting down whatever inspires you in your day-to-day life.
