About the Artist

Born into a humble family, Renoir's youth was greatly impacted by poverty. In search of better opportunities, his father relocated the family from Limoges to Paris while he was still a child. Despite financial struggles, Renoir showed a natural talent for art and music, but was forced to discontinue his lessons and leave school at the age of 13 to work in a porcelain factory. However, he continued to cultivate his skills by attending free drawing classes and eventually enrolling at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts. With his close proximity to the Louvre, Renoir was able to study the works of the Old Masters, even when he couldn't afford paint.

During his time at École des Beaux-Arts, Renoir formed a deep bond with fellow artist Claude Monet, leading to a lifelong friendship. The summer of 1869 saw the beginning of a pivotal collaboration between the two at a quaint café just outside of Paris. This significant moment served as the catalyst for the development of Impressionism, as they experimented with new theories and techniques. Renoir's prolific career resulted in thousands of paintings, many of which are now iconic and highly sought after in the art world.
